How come Americans have such a strong Christian Fundementalist streak...?
It's just history. As freedoms of Europe were restricted people fled to colonize other parts of the world. Canada got the French and adventurers, Australia got the convicts and good-time Charlies, and America got the fundamentalist whack jobs.
