Bonjour instant messaging on ichat: what is it and is there a point?

when I log into ichat, there is always bonjour set up. I have sometimes turned it off, because I dont think there is a point to it because I cant add any buddies. I just use my reg. account but I was just wondering if bonjour is usable *TEN POINTS*
